• Use this app to calculate friction loss or pump discharge pressure in hose lines ranging from 3/4" to 6".
• See how friction loss calculations are made and how each variable fits into the friction loss formula.
• Play with friction loss calculations and instantly see how changes in each variable relate to changes in friction loss.
• Use initial pressure and flow pressure to calculate residual pressure and determine how much additional water can be supplied.
• Calculate surface area, volume and capacity of cylindrical and square tanks. Calculations can be made using either feet or inches. Results are presented as square feet, cubic feet and gallons.
• Use the reference section to find the coefficient for hoses ranging in size from 3/4" to 6". Find capacities for smooth bore nozzles ranging in size from 3/4" to 2".
• All calculations are made using the friction loss formula as shown on the friction loss formula page and coefficients as shown in the reference section.
• An estimate of 10 psi is used for heavy appliances.
• Back pressure is calculated using .434 psi per foot of elevation.
• Capacities are calculated using 7.48 gallons per cubic foot.
• Use this app as a study guide or as an aid in pre-planning. Although I made every effort to insure the calculations are performed correctly I cannot guarantee the results will be suitable to your needs. In other words "your mileage may vary".
• This app was intended as a guide and reference tool. Exact allowances for friction loss cannot be made due to factors that this app cannot take into account. Factors such as age and condition of hose jackets and liners, condition of appliances and nozzles, and variations among manufacturers may lead to results that are different from calculated results. Follow your departments guidelines. If you use this app on the fire ground do so at your own risk.
