Turfly ("turf-lee") is a free mobile app that makes walking and running fun by turning it into a game. Capture territories, challenge your friends and paint the town blue!
How does it work? The game transforms your neighborhood into a grid of territories (called ÔÇ£TurfsÔÇØ). Each Turf is about the size of a football field. By walking or running through them, you score points. Whoever has the most points captures the Turf! But beware; your friends will try to capture your turfs while youÔÇÖre away.
Who can play? If you feel like you don't always enjoy exercise enough, that running has become boring, that you want to own your neighborhood or challenge your friends, then this app is for you.
Like other running/walking apps such as Runkeeper, MapMyRun, MapMyWalk, Breeze and Moves, Turfly also tracks performance metrics around your movement, such as pace, distance, speed etc.
Here's what some of our users have to say about Turfly:
"Turfly is awesome. I challenge anyone to try to take my turf from me." - Julie P., beta tester in San Francisco
ÔÇ£ItÔÇÖs like some of my favorite apps (Ingress, MapMyRun and Foursquare) combined.ÔÇØ - Kristina K., beta tester in Ottawa, Canada
A few notes about on common issues with run and walk tracking apps: Turfly doesnÔÇÖt sell or share your location data with anyone. Turfly is optimized to save as much battery as possible while still tracking all of your walking and running. Use of background location services can decrease battery life, though. You can manually turn tracking on and off for better control.
Turfly needs to run in the background to track your activities, which means you will need to have background app refresh turned on. Find the setting in Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
